Near Death

Hey. I know that I am not the only one who has done egregiously stupid things. I don’t hold the patent for stupidity do I? Nah, I am just a bungler but bungling is required to learn life’s difficult lessons. If we don’t bungle then we are most likely coddled and coddling is only for the very wealthy. The rest of us just grit our teeth and muddle through. Did you know that it isn’t supposed to be this way?

When it comes down to weeping about life we all do from time to time. However, there is support for those with subtle enough mind to look under the corners of life. Rather like trying to find out what stinks in the kitchen. You move from cupboard to cupboard but only after checking the fridge. If we don’t find it there then we go to the traps in the garage to see if we missed a rat in one of those traps. Failing to find the rat we wonder if our senses are acting up. That our sense of smell became acute while we were sleeping the night before. Then it dawns on us. Wait! Let me just sit down and sort. Is it me or is it the world that stinks because I’ve checked everything within my purview.

The corners of life are those visible and mindful things that we pass each day without thinking twice of their importance. The bible is one of these and maybe the most important once we are fully aware that something stinks. It is merely this world we are forced to live in but the cause goes back beyond our mind’s ability to understand. Hence, the bible. A simple book full of tales and fictive miracles, some say, as concerns people of old and, possibly, a Savior. A Savior from all of this stinking world of mankind. Ironic isn’t it? It was always there but you passed it by. A disinfectant, if you will, for all the wrongs that mankind has done as we are mentioned, generation by generation, in a thing called prophecy.

Of course, the bible is something we should all take personally as this is why it was written. A compass in a world which didn’t just go mad but, has always been mad. We just have better weapons now. Weapons manufactured by those who think the world is the be all, end all. The world of imperfect men and women, yes, women, who go day to day without an anchor to moor their lives in common sense.

Oh, woe is me. Why didn’t I think of this before? You are now. It is a fairly inexpensive book to hold in your hands. Maybe something like thirty bucks or you can most likely get one free at a motel. Yeah, I’ve been around a long time so why didn’t I start this a long time ago? There were no computers so I had to read the book for myself after getting my parents to buy one for me. I was twelve when I got it. I read the thing like a boy possessed, cover to cover. It didn’t change my life but it gave me a place to land when I was out of gas. It is a wonderful thing to allow your mind to rest in, the bible. Near death had naught to do with my first wanting to read it. To begin reading it was over sixty-eight years ago and it never left me. It has seen me through the worst that life can offer (combat) and put me back on the road of grace. Odd fella, ain’t I?
