The Blink of an Eye
As it stands, our lives are quite short even if we live to be one hundred. Some Redwoods got their start when Jesus was in swaddling clothes. The Joshua Pines are older than the Redwoods by eons. We are here and then gone in the blink of an eye. Why so short? The cynic would say that we live such a short time because, were we to live a few centuries, this world could no longer support us. Not enough of this and, surely, not enough of that to be had by billions more people. Funny how life spans depend on how active or how much brain power each life on Earth has. There is a Heavenly formula in there somewhere isn’t there? One variable in that formula has to be the X of imperfection. The square root of that variable is destruction. We are now and have always been a destructive lot.
Whether you subscribe to the fact that humans are imperfect, therefore, destructive depends on whether or not you are of rational mind. Those who are not rational are the same ones who fear death. Death is a given for all of us and it isn’t maudlin to state this. It is as real as real can geet but it is covered over by wealth and thievery, adultery and bunko, lies and hopes. Yet, it is as real as anything human gets. What comes to us after death?
That is where faith comes in as faith precludes the short list in commas above. It tells us we are temporary and, thus, that we need to toe some line and why can’t that line be the one that God drew in the sand? It is as good a hope as any other one might argue. Maybe better though many would not believe it to be true or sacrifice a penny to be righteous. No, we are imperfect and few are called to Him that created all. Less and less each day despite the news casts. Instead, we take our God designed and given bodies and mark them up with tattoos. Tattoos? Why? How about a gentle kiss that tells your mate you love him or her. Tattoo? A tattoo will keep the door shut to you after your death. The tattoo will rot along with your corpse. There are better ways to think, aren’t there?
